Onto Lake Ontario

Al passed through Lock 1 of the Trent-Severn Waterway this afternoon, and entered the big waters of Lake Ontario. He thought about taking the short route across the St. Lawrence (marked 'if nice weather' on the map), even though folks he had met along his row had warned him not to. He poked his nose out to take a look, but as soon as he started rowing, the winds picked up and the waves started building, so he sanely decided to take the longer ('if bad weather') route by Kingston and around Amherst Island. Al thinks this will add about a day to his trip. After rowing for 38 miles, he's camping tonight at Crate Marine in Belleville.

  1. Finally getting caught up and enjoying the read. Was stranded in Whitehall, NY Tuesday due to a vehicle breakdown. While we waited for the mechanics to fix the van we walked around the town and came across the local museum and canal. I can see why you have a fondness for these waterways. Looking forward to reading on. Dave Nuzzi
