Al spent today rowing on the Bay of Quinte in high winds. The 'Z' shape of the bay afforded him a 'glorious' downwind stretch for 12 miles, then a dicey 4 hour upwind battle, where he couldn't pull his oars all the way back because of the force of the wind. The final leg was happily downwind again; still, it was starting to get dark by the time he reached the village of Bath, in the north channel behind Amherst Island. A 47 mile day on 'a lot of beautiful water.' He's camping at the Maritime Museum in the company of several tall ships, the remnant of a weekend gathering of 11 ships. Since windy conditions are predicted again for tomorrow, Al plans to start rowing at first light to take advantage of the lighter winds at that hour, and expects to cross the border to the US today.
